A theatre for fifteen thousand, a waterfall in a pine forest, a canyon for rafting. All of it within an hour.
Side has more history per square metre than most cities and wears none of it heavily. From Barut Hemera the ancient town is a short drive, the mountains are behind it, and the sea is where it has always been.
The theatre still seats fifteen thousand; the Temple of Apollo keeps five columns for the sunset; the museum is in a Roman bath. Go early or late, and end at the harbour.
Manavgat Waterfall is wide rather than tall, cold, and shaded by plane trees; the river boats leave from the town. K.prülü Canyon, an hour inland, is where the rafting is, with lunch on the riverbank.
Aspendos, forty minutes west, has the best preserved Roman theatre in the world; Perge, beyond it, a whole city in plan. Alanya's castle and harbour lie an hour east. The hotel arranges cars and guides.
The Manavgat market on Mondays and Thursdays, the promenade into Side for dinner, a bicycle along the shore road, and the hotel's own programme, from morning yoga to the evening stage.
