In our group's 8 hotels with 2,800 rooms and 6,500 beds, a valuable team of 3,500 people are working in Barut Hotels by representing impeccable service quality. We focus on minimizing our environmental and social impacts by adopting sustainability principles. In this context, we aim to contribute to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. We take measures to ensure energy efficiency, reduce water consumption, and improve waste management at our facilities. We also strive to create economic opportunities and enhance social welfare by collaborating with local communities. We further reinforce our environmental responsibility by training and raising awareness among our employees. We believe that all these efforts will not only be limited to environmental sustainability but will also contribute to social development. We are confident that we can achieve these goals with the participation and support of all our stakeholders.
Barut Hotels launched its environmental awareness movement in 2019 under the name We Care. During the pandemic period, it was renamed We Care All in 2021 in line with changing and evolving needs and expectations. This movement emphasizes sustainable practices in many areas such as education, employee rights, environmental activities, supporting cultural heritage, waste reduction, recycling, supporting agriculture, purchasing from local sources, renewable energy investments, local employment, and participation in sporting events.
Since its establishment in 1971, Barut Hotels has adopted the mission of protecting and developing the love of nature and humanity. The We Care All movement, aims to fulfill its responsibilities towards future generations through sustainable practices today. Within this framework, it plays an active role in protecting natural resources, supporting the local economy, and empowering communities.
By placing sustainability principles at the center of its values, Barut Hotels takes a decisive step towards minimizing both its environmental and social impacts.
Founded in June 2023, the committee realizes many projects focusing on people, nature, environment, culture, and art. Barut Hotels hosted many artists at Side Ancient City and Perge Ancient City and supported culture and arts. Barut Hotels has been the main sponsor of the excavations of the ancient city of Side for many years and has donated cultural houses, schools, and trees to Manavgat and Side; this is a demonstration of its environmental and sustainability policies.
The Group has an environmental committee, the We Care All Committee, which meets regularly to standardize sustainability efforts. This committee includes each hotel's quality department managers, energy management experts, and members of the marketing & corporate communications department. This multidisciplinary approach helps to develop strategies to implement sustainability principles in line with goals such as reducing environmental impact, increasing energy efficiency, and empowering local communities.
Barut Hotels is committed not only to providing quality service to its guests but also to contributing to the environment and society.
GRI Reports:
As part of the We Care All Committee's 2024 targets, all the group's hotels will publish their GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) reports in January 2025, a universal reporting system.
The Group's newest hotel, Anda Barut Collection, opened on May 6, 2024, and will be able to prepare its GRI report in the following year.
GRI helps businesses and governments worldwide understand and communicate their impact on critical sustainability issues such as climate change, human rights, governance, and social welfare.
Our primary goal is to provide the best quality service by prioritizing guest satisfaction together with our employees. To this objective, we have adopted the following guidelines.
Barut Hotels complies with legal requirements in all its product and service processes as a principle.
Our employees are our most valuable assets. Continuous improvements and use of the latest technologies are consistent across all our processes to minimize any risks that could jeopardize the health and safety of our employees and business partners, and to prevent occupational accidents. It is our essential rule to train our employees, to safeguard human rights, and to practice non-discriminatory policies.
Our guests are always our priority: We consistently follow up on all guest complaints from all sources, resolve those complaints, and transform them into an opportunity to enhance our services and keep our guests informed.
Our priority is to prevent environmental pollution by using our resources efficiently; to protect nature; to reduce the quantity of our wastes, to recycle them, and to reduce or eliminate any harm they may create.
As Barut Hotels, we prioritize the most efficient use of our energy resources, monitoring and recording our energy consumption data through technological investments, continually improving energy efficiency by reviewing our performance indicators and goals, and informing relevant stakeholders in this regard. In all our services and activities, we operate with an environmentally friendly hotel concept, taking actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency projects and increasing the use of renewable energy sources in our designs and operations. We consider ensuring the sustainability of this energy management system as one of our main responsibilities
The first green energy-certified hotels in the Mediterranean Region in Türkiye are owned by Barut Hotels. Acanthus Cennet Barut Collection and Lara Barut Collection are the first green energy-certified hotels in the Mediterranean Region. Investments are ongoing to ensure that all hotels affiliated with Barut Hotels are powered by green energy in 2024.
It is our common principle to implement the food safety system throughout the food chain to provide products that comply with the quality food safety principles, to perform continuous improvements, and to give particular importance to hygiene conditions across all our hotels.
We work to provide better service than our competitors at the optimal cost, by determining the expectations and requirements of our investors, while offering our employees and our business partners a peaceful, safe working environment.
We are aware of our contribution to the local economy; thus, 95% of our suppliers and our raw materials are local. We purchase environment-friendly materials that use less energy and water and generate less waste, for sustainable tourism. In light of these principles, our hotels, which compete in national and international markets, demonstrate the stability necessary for continuous leadership, resource provision, and process enhancement.
We believe that everyone should bear responsibility for the protection of children. We are aware that the well-being of children and child abuse prevention is crucial, and it is our primary duty to protect all children from physical and mental harassment. In light of these principles, our hotels, which compete in national and international markets, demonstrate the stability necessary for continuous leadership, resource provision, and process enhancement.
We respect the environment and the Earth to gain respect in our world. We aim to control water, electricity, energy, chemical, and solid waste quantities; to minimize damage caused to the environment and natural resources while making no concessions regarding the comfort of our guests. The use of natural resources has been reduced with measures taken in line with sustainable tourism principles, and practices have been updated to minimize and, where possible, eliminate any damage to soil, water, and air.
Barut Hotels has long been a supporter of the excavations in Side. In 2021, the year when the brand celebrated its 50th anniversary, it became the official main sponsor of the excavations in Side, and the sponsorship continues.
The summer period relievo (all dimensions of a building), restitution (chronologically documenting the additions according to its original design), and restoration (repair) works began at the Side Nymphaeum (Monumental Fountain). The relievo, restoration, and restitution works in the Monumental Fountain are being carried out with the contribution of the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), and Barut Hotels. The restoration and restitution works at the Nymphaeum, at Side’s entrance, will be ongoing for five years within the framework of the History Comes to Light project. The spectacular Roman architecture will be restored with these works, carried out in three sections. There are nine fountains in the Nymphaeum. These fountains are the symbol of the physical and spiritual cleansing of Side as the city entered its Roman period: visitors to the town could wash their feet at nine different fountains. When this work is completed, the Roman-era city entrance gate and the nine gorgeous fountains will be seen again.
Barut Hotels, which supports the restoration works through their completion, carries the mission of testifying, as a brand, to these monuments, respecting the past and cultural history to bring Side into the global agenda.
