Due to the growing interest of Swedish industry in the Turkish market and Turkic states, and the increasing need to further develop cooperation within the Swedish business community in Türkiye, it was decided to establish the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Türkiye. Since current Turkish legislation does not permit the establishment of a Chamber, the association—whose formation process has been completed—was renamed the Turkish-Swedish Trade Center Association. For practical reasons, the association is still informally referred to as the “Swedish Chamber of Commerce.”
With this development, the lunch club, founded in 1990 and transformed into the Swedish Business Club in 1993, took a new step by bringing together Swedish companies, their Turkish business partners (distributors and agents), and Turkish businesspeople with extensive commercial relations with Sweden under the roof of the Association (SCC). This new step was highly appreciated and supported by many Swedish and Turkish businesspeople/companies, Swedish authorities, and the Swedish Trade Council.
At this stage, it is considered valuable to define the mission, goals, values, and criteria for acceptance into the SCC in a more distinguished way. The SWEDISH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in Türkiye (the commonly used name for the Turkish-Swedish Trade Center Association) was founded by Swedish and Turkish businesspeople who conduct business with Sweden in Türkiye:
Sweden’s industry and technical expertise are well-known and recognized worldwide, and have been strongly represented in Türkiye for over 50 years. As a country heavily dependent on foreign trade—where trade with other nations is a major driving force of industrial development—it is extremely important for Sweden and Swedish industry to have a strong presence in a market such as Türkiye.
Sweden is home to numerous well-known companies that operate globally and make significant investments in other countries. In this context, spreading Swedish technical expertise in the Turkish market and maintaining a professional and strong cooperation with the Turkish business world align with the common interests of Swedish business.
SCC will fulfill its mission of positioning Swedish industry more effectively and strongly in the Turkish market by promoting Swedish industry and technical expertise, and by leveraging members’ commercial interests through its business network.
